Anti-Canada Room:
Building Resistance to Canada 2017 Celebrations

Sunday, May 24, 11am-5pm
Room #125, 2515, rue Delisle (métro Lionel-Groulx)
part of the Montreal Anarchist Bookfair

The year 2017 will mark the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation. Already, federal and local governments are spending multi-million dollar sums to celebrate and re-brand “Canada” in anticipation of 2017. The next three years will see a concerted attempt by the state to promote the idea of a beneficent and progressive “Canada”, locally and internationally, as well as to whitewash, literally, Canada’s past.

As anti-statists, rooted in struggles against oppression in all its forms, we want to undermine the idea of Canada, with a potential decentralized mobilization, linked to ongoing anti-colonial, anti-racist organizing, in the coming years. This theme room will allow us to learn about different anti-Canada perspectives, as well to network a bit about potential anti-Canada organizing in the coming months and years.

The ANTI-CANADA ROOM at the Montreal Anarchist Bookfair is organized by three anarchists who despise Canada: Mandy Hiscocks (Guelph), Dan Sawyer (Ottawa) & Jaggi Singh (Montreal, via Toronto), with the support of No One Is Illegal-Montreal and the Anti-Canada Committee in Montreal.
